How to Choose a Replacement Inset Gas Fire
A replacement inset gas fire is often chosen so you can keep an existing fireplace and replace the fire inside it, rather than changing the complete surround.
What to decide
- Opening shape and burner dimensions
- Available burner height
- Natural Gas or LPG
- Coal-effect or coals and logs
- Manual or remote control on eligible heights
Measure first. Then use the burner finder to see the closest matching options from our rectangular, tapered and Victorian ranges.
Remote control is available on 142mm, 179mm and 218mm heights, not on 107mm.
Gas appliances must be installed and commissioned by a suitably qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. This guide does not cover gas connections, conversion or combustion adjustment.

Should I replace the whole fireplace?
Not necessarily. Many customers keep the existing surround and look for a burner that suits the opening.
What fuel should I choose?
Choose Natural Gas or LPG to match the supply the fire will be connected to. Do not use a fire configured for the other gas type.
When can I have remote control?
On 142mm, 179mm and 218mm burner heights. 107mm is manual only.
