Insulation & construction board Skamotec 225 is designed for insulating and constructing suitable stove and fireplace surrounds, enclosures and other heat-resistant structures. It is not a replacement combustion-chamber fire brick or vermiculite stove liner.

What is Skamotec 225?

Skamotec 225 is a lightweight calcium silicate insulation board for suitable high-temperature applications around stoves, fireplaces and other heat-producing installations. It is used as a construction and enclosure board — a heat resistant board for surrounds and similar structures, not an internal stove liner.

This Skamotec board is 25mm thick and rated for service temperatures up to 1000°C. As a calcium silicate insulation board it is chosen where a stove surround board or fireplace insulation board needs to be workable, insulating and suitable for high temperature insulation work.

Why choose Skamotec 225?

  • Up to 1000°C

Rated for a maximum service temperature of up to 1000°C where appropriate for the application.

  • 25mm thick

Supplied as a 25mm calcium silicate board for enclosure and surround construction.

  • Approx. 225 kg/m³

A lightweight bulk density of approximately 225 kg/m³, easier to handle than dense masonry.

  • Low thermal conductivity

Helps reduce heat transfer through surrounding construction when used as specified.

  • Non-combustible

A non-combustible calcium silicate insulation board for suitable heat-resistant construction.

  • Easy to work

Can be cut, drilled and shaped with suitable tools when wearing appropriate PPE.

What is Skamotec 225 used for?

  • Stove surrounds

Used to insulate and construct suitable stove surrounds and adjacent enclosure work.

  • Fireplace surrounds

Suitable for fireplace surrounds, enclosures and similar heat-resistant finishing where specified.

  • False chimney breasts

A workable board for false chimney breast and enclosure construction around a heat-producing appliance.

  • Heat-resistant walls

Used in heat-resistant wall and enclosure construction where a calcium silicate board is specified.

  • Fireplace chambers

May be used in fireplace chamber construction where the design calls for this type of board, not as a fire brick.

  • Pizza oven work

Suitable for pizza oven insulation and construction where a rigid calcium silicate board is specified.

Skamotec 225 for stove and fireplace surrounds

Around a stove or fireplace, calcium silicate board is useful because it is lightweight, insulating and straightforward to cut to the required shape. It is intended for surrounding and enclosure construction, helping reduce heat transfer into the adjacent structure.

It is not a sacrificial combustion-chamber liner or replacement fire brick. Internal stove lining still requires the correct fire bricks or vermiculite liner where those products are specified.

For a pizza oven, pair rigid under-floor or enclosure insulation with Ceramic Fibre Blanket where a flexible wrap is specified, and with Premium Clay Fire Bricks and Refractory Powdered Fire Clay for heat-facing masonry. Related materials are in BBQ DIY Pizza Oven Parts, with an example in the wood-fired pizza oven guide.

How to cut and install Skamotec board

Install according to the requirements of the particular stove, fireplace or construction system. This is practical guidance, not a complete engineering specification.

  1. Measure and mark Measure the area and mark the board before cutting.
  2. Support the board Support the board properly so it does not flex or break while cutting.
  3. Cut with suitable tools Cut using suitable woodworking tools for calcium silicate board.
  4. Drill, sand or shape Drill, sand or shape where the construction requires it.
  5. Control dust Calcium silicate board produces dust when cut or sanded. Wear suitable respiratory and eye protection and keep dust to a minimum.
  6. Install as specified Fix and finish according to the stove, fireplace or enclosure system you are building.

Which Skamotec board size do I need?

Measure the area being constructed or insulated, plan the cuts, then choose the available board size and pack quantity that covers that work. Allow extra for cuts and waste.

Available face sizes on this listing are 1000mm x 610mm (2 x 500mm Boards); 500mm x 610mm; 249mm x 303mm. Amount options are 1, 2 or 4. This page does not give a universal coverage figure because that depends on the project.
